Creeping buttercup

Creeping buttercup is a common weed that can quickly spread across your lawn and leave your grass weak and patchy. This is notoriously difficult to remove because of its robust root system which can spread out to form new plants.

Here is our guide on controlling this fast-spreading weed:

  1. Mowing

Regularly mow your lawn at a height of 10-25mm and try to mow your lawn once a week. Leaving your grass at this length will help shade the creeping buttercup, so it’s unable to flower and set seed.

You’ll also want to keep your lawn mower blades sharp and avoid mowing when the grass is wet to ensure a clean cut that promotes healthy growth.

  1. Remove by hand

One solution is manual removal, you can use a hand fork or trowel to remove the whole plant, but make sure to pick up any roots left over so that it doesn’t regrow.

  1. Lawn aeration

Compacted soil creates the perfect conditions for creeping buttercup to grow and spread across your lawn. Our lawn aeration treatment is a brilliant solution for reducing soil compaction which will help your lawn fight back against this resilient weed.

This process creates tiny holes in your lawn so that more oxygen, water and nutrients can reach the grass roots.

  1. Weed response

If creeping buttercup has infested your lawn, our weed response treatment is an effective solution to help return your lawn to a swathe of green grass. We use professional-grade herbicide which will target and help control creeping buttercup in your lawn.

With ongoing lawn maintenance, our experts can help assess and prevent weed growth so you can rest assured that your lawn is never compromised.
