What a rollercoaster of a summer it’s been. After the hottest June since records began, July and August have been a mixed bag to say the least. Wind, rain and nowhere near enough prolonged sun for our liking! With a few weeks of summer left to come, it’s time to talk food – specifically, the superfood your lawn deserves for its post-summer recovery. And, while we’re at it, we’ll throw in a BBQ recipe or two for you to enjoy in your garden with family and friends on the August bank holiday weekend…
So let’s get talking about your lawn. It’s been an absolute workhorse through the summer with all the playing and partying happening on it and after several weeks of wear and tear it needs feeding too!
The ground around and under your lawn has to be full of the right nutrients to ensure that it provides the ideal environment for growth. That’s where our specially-formulated fertilisers come in, which are adaptable and season-dependent.
While temperatures remain warm, we can continue to apply our summer lawn feed to give your grass the boost it needs to flourish over the final weeks of summer and it will not scorch the grass – even if applied during periods of high temperatures and low moisture.
We’re all hoping for an Indian summer, but the reality is that September is just a couple of weeks away – and that means temperatures can start to drop suddenly. This calls for a different type of lawn feed to help your lawn recover and to protect it from the advent of the autumnal elements.
Our autumn lawn feed will keep your grass growing, while also strengthening the roots to ensure its survival as the temperatures start to drop significantly in the following weeks. In addition to helping your lawn recover from the summer, it will also keep it thick and healthy during the cooler portion of the year, as well as helping to keep away various pests that can harm your turf.
So with a little help from Greensleeves, your lawn can be super healthy and super nourished. And now it’s time for a little bonus on us – two of our favourite BBQ recipes for you to enjoy on your lawn, with the late summer bank holiday being a perfect time to test them out. Time to put that apron on and light those coals again while you still can!
Indulge in the deliciousness of Halloumi and Pepper Kebabs with Lemony Cabbage Salad from BBC Good Food. Combining perfectly grilled halloumi cheese cubes and red pepper squares, threaded onto skewers and drizzled with a tantalising blend of olive oil and oregano. The accompanying red cabbage salad, tossed in a zesty mixture of extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, and fresh parsley, adds a refreshing crunch. With a slight char and delightful smoky flavour, serve this delectable dish on a platter with warm pitta breads, tzatziki, and the vibrant cabbage salad on the side.
Perhaps something a bit more spicy is up your alley. Look no further with the fiery flavours of Jamie Oliver’s Barbeque Chicken. This recipe calls for a tantalising blend of orange zest, dried chilli, smoked paprika, Dijon mustard, honey, tomato ketchup, and olive oil. After a quick coat and marinade, grill the chicken on your barbeque until it turns a gorgeous golden hue, basting it with the remaining marinade for an extra burst of flavour. Serve the succulent chicken breasts with a spoonful of the reserved sauce on top, and get ready for a fiery and satisfying meal.
